Canadian Fast Food restaurant Tim Hortons has added a plant-based meat selection back to its menu.
The breakfast options include the New Harvest Breakfast Sandwich and Harvest Breakfast Wrap. Both selections will feature the impossible sausage patties served with (non-vegan) eggs and cheese.
The company says the purpose behind the menu change is to provide a plant-based alternative to their customers that doesn’t lack the flavor they offer.
According to Chef Tallis Voakes, Tim Horton Director of Culinary Innovation, the vegan sausage is back because of the constant demand for the item.
Voakes said, “The plant-based Impossible Sausage is another craveable option for all our guests – but we’re really happy to be meeting a need for those who had been asking for a plant-based alternative in their Tims breakfast sandwiches and wraps.”
This move comes two years after the company pulled all beyond meat options from its locations following a low-performance rate.
Beyond Meat and Tim Hortons initially collaborated on the breakfast sausage option in May 2019, which became highly successful and led to a national rollout in Canada that summer.
Things began to take a swift turn months later after the fast-food chain started pulling Beyond sausage from its 4000+ locations and only offered the options in the Ontario and British Colombia stores. In January 2020, Tim Hortons removed the item altogether.
The following year in December 2021, Tim Hortons decided to launch oat milk in all the restaurant’s locations after announcing a partnership with Chobani.
