Planet Fitness has found a way to make sure teens between the ages of 14 to 19 has access to a gym all summer. The company says High School Summer Pass Initiative will run from May 16 to Aug. 31.

High School Summer Pass Initiative, a program started in 2019 under the former name Teen Summer Challenge, was created to help improve teens’ mental and physical health.

A study by the American Medical Association (JAMA) Network Open stated that less than 15% of teens and young adults met the recommended hour of daily physical activity since the start of the pandemic.

According to Trails Carolina, teens that incorporate exercise into their everyday routine will see numerous benefits. The list includes reduced stress, improved self-confidence, sharper cognitive abilities, lower risk of anxiety and depression, increased energy, etc.

Since the Planet Fitness program’s launch, over 900,000 applications have been submitted, and 5.5 million workouts have been completed. In addition to the free gym access, the company plans to reward students who participate in the High School Summer Pass Initiative. Those who sign up for the program will automatically enter the drawing.

One of the awards includes a $500 scholarship to each state and the District of Columbia. At the same time, the grand prize consists of a $5000 scholarship that will be awarded to one lucky individual at the end of the summer. Students can essentially use the scholarship prizes for any academic and athletic activities.

For more information, high schoolers should visit Planet Fitness’ official website and pre-register for High School Summer Pass Initiative and get a reminder to complete the application when it starts on May 16. Those under the age of 18 must register with a parent or guardian.
